How to calculate days between dates
- Pick a start date and an end date.
- Tick Include the end date if both the first and last day should be counted.
- Click Calculate difference.
- Read the result in years, months and days, plus total days, weeks, weekdays and hours.
Inclusive vs exclusive counting
By default the calculator counts from the start date up to, but not including, the end date. From 1 March to 2 March is 1 day, the same way you count nights in a hotel. When you include the end date, both days count, so 1 March to 2 March is 2 days. Inclusive counting suits leave requests, rentals, events and deadlines where the last day matters. The tool explains which rule was used with every result.
Years and months are calculated with real calendar months, not averages. When a start date falls on a day that doesn’t exist in a later month, like 31 January, the month is counted to the last day of the shorter month. Total days include leap days. Weekdays count Monday to Friday and don’t take public holidays into account, as these differ by country.
Useful for
- Counting days until a holiday, exam or deadline.
- Working out the length of a contract, project or notice period.
- Calculating how long you have lived somewhere or worked for a company.
- Checking working days between two dates.
