How to split a PDF
- Upload one PDF. The tool reads it and shows how many pages it has.
- Choose a method: Custom ranges, Every page or Every N pages.
- For custom ranges, type the pages you want, separated by commas, for example
1-3, 4-10, 11-. Each range becomes its own PDF. Tick the option underneath if you would rather put all selected pages into one file. - Click Split PDF, then download individual files or use Download all as ZIP.
Features of the PDF splitter
This split PDF tool understands the page-range format used by most printers: single numbers like 5, ranges like 2-7, and open-ended ranges like 12-, which means “page 12 to the end”. Before anything is created, every range is checked against the real page count. If you ask for page 40 of a 30-page file, you get a clear message instead of a silent mistake.
Each output file is named after the original with the pages it contains, such as report-pages-4-10.pdf, so you can tell the parts apart after downloading. Pages are copied without conversion, so text remains searchable and images keep their full quality. Processing happens locally with pdf-lib, and ZIP archives are built with JSZip in your browser.
Practical uses
- Send only the relevant chapter of a long report instead of the whole document.
- Separate a scanned batch of letters or invoices into one file per page.
- Split a large textbook into weekly reading sections.
- Break a file into chunks that fit an email or upload size limit.
Split PDF FAQ
Can I extract pages that are not next to each other?
Yes. Enter them as a list, such as 1, 4, 9, and tick “Put all selected pages into one PDF” to get them in one file.
Does splitting change the original file?
No. Your original PDF stays exactly as it was. The tool only creates new files.
What happens with overlapping ranges?
Each range becomes its own file, so overlapping ranges simply produce files that share some pages.
