How the passwords are generated
This password generator uses crypto.getRandomValues, the browser’s cryptographically secure random number generator, which is the same source used to create encryption keys. It avoids the bias that simple random methods can introduce, guarantees at least one character from each type you selected, and shuffles the result so those characters can appear anywhere.
Strength is estimated as entropy: the length multiplied by the number of bits each character adds, based on the size of the character pool. Under 40 bits is weak, 40–60 fair, 60–80 strong and over 80 very strong. A 16-character password using all four character types has about 104 bits of entropy, far beyond what can be guessed.
Passwords are created entirely on your device. They are never sent to a server, logged or stored, and they disappear when you leave the page.

Password generator FAQ
Is it safe to generate passwords online?
With this tool, yes: the password is generated in your browser and never leaves your device. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads.
How long should my password be?
At least 12–16 characters for most accounts, and longer for important ones like email and banking.
Why exclude similar characters?
Characters like O and 0 are easy to confuse when typing from paper. Excluding them reduces mistakes with only a small effect on strength.
