How to make a passport photo
- Take a clear, front-facing photo against a plain light background, with even lighting and no shadows.
- Upload it and select the size required by your country or application, or enter a custom size in millimetres.
- Drag and resize the frame so your head and the top of your shoulders are centred. The preview shows the final photo.
- Click Create passport photo and download the single photo and the print sheet.
What this tool does, and doesn’t do
The passport photo maker crops your picture to the exact aspect ratio of the size you choose and resizes it to 300 dots per inch, the resolution photo labs and most official guidelines expect. A 35 × 45 mm photo becomes 413 × 531 pixels; a 2 × 2 inch photo becomes 602 × 602 pixels. The print sheet arranges as many copies as fit on standard 4 × 6 inch (10 × 15 cm) photo paper, with thin cutting guides.
It does not remove or change backgrounds, adjust lighting, or check whether your photo meets official rules. Requirements for head size, expression, glasses and background colour differ between countries and change over time, so always check the current rules from the issuing authority before printing or submitting.
Common photo sizes
- 35 × 45 mm: UK, EU and Schengen countries, Pakistan, India passports and many others.
- 2 × 2 in (51 × 51 mm): US passports and visas, and India visas.
- 50 × 70 mm: Canadian passports.
- 33 × 48 mm: Chinese visas.
Passport photo FAQ
How do I print the photos?
Print the 4 × 6 inch sheet on photo paper at a print shop or at home, at 100% scale with “fit to page” turned off, then cut along the guides.
Can I use this for online applications?
Many online forms accept a digital photo. Check the required pixel size and file size; you can adjust them with our Image Resizer and Image Compressor.
Can it make my background white?
No. Take your photo against a plain white or light wall. The background colour setting only fills transparent areas and the print sheet.
